1996, Archaeometry 1994 (ISA Ankara)
In 1984, a rectangular sheet of metal was found at the Enge peninsular near Bern, Switzerland. A Celtic inscription and the find spot within the remains of a Gallo-Roman sanctuary indicate an ancient origin. Chemical analyses identified the metal as crude, unrefined zinc. Metallographic examination of the metal allowed to reconstruct its manufacture. The liquid metal was cast into a flat, open, iron mould. Subsequently, the inscription was punched into the flat face. Hand writing characteristics indicate that two persons were involved in the writing. The patina was found to be consistent with a high age of the piece.
